Type Locality and Naming

In the mountains of Turkmenatau, Kuldzhuktau, Central Kyzylkum. Ya.B. Aysanov et al., 1984.

Synonym: Turkmenatau Suite, Туркментауская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Black and dark-gray limestones at the base of the section; Middle part is white, light-gray, and mottled limestones with dolomite interlayers; Capped by a characteristic layer of "patterned" fragmental limestones of light-gray color. Thickness 400-700m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably overlies the Bashguzumdin Fm

Upper contact

Conformably overlain by the Sultanbibi Fm (Aysanov et al., 1984; 165; 460).

Regional extent

In the form of isolated outcrops throughout the area of the Kuldzhuktau Mountains (Bashguzumdy, Taushan, Sultanbibi, Aktosty, southeast of the city of Darvaza, southern slope of Beltau).

Contains brachiopods - Gypidula integra Barr., G. ex gr. pelagica Barr., Leptaena rhomboidalis Wilck., Spirigerina supramarginalis Khalf. and others; tabulates Favosites cf. acrospinosus Dubat., F. cf. brusnitzini Peetz., F. cf. nikiforovae Chekh., F. ex gr. socialis Sok. et Tes., Pachyfavosites ex gr. kozlovskii Sok. and others; crinoids Pentagonocyclicus cf. multibifidus Yelt., Cyclocyclicus latus Yelt.; stromatoporoids Simplexodictyon ex gr. primordium Yavor., Syringostromella sp., characterizing the Lochkovian-Pragian age of the Devonian.
